Albert Mathew Gilbert Jr., 78, of Statesville, N.C., passed away April 6, 2024, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Gilbert was born January 27, 1946 in Saltville, Va., and was the son of the late Albert Mathew Gilbert Sr. and Edith Williams Gilbert. He attended schools in Saltville, Va., and in February of 1978 he married the Phyllis Gorman Gilbert, who passed away June 12, 2021. He loved his family, fishing and woodworking.

He is survived by two children, “Bud” Albert Mathew Gilbert III (Tina) of Hamptonville, N.C., and Brian Gilbert; and two grandchildren, Ashlyn and Alston Gilbert; along with seven siblings, Harold Gilbert of Virginia, Jimmy Gilbert of Virginia, Donald Gilbert of Florida, Mary Widener of Virginia, Jean Crouse of Glade Valley, N.C., Loriene Alexander of Candler, N.C., and Patsy Bittinger of Florida.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Brown and Judy Gilbert.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
