Sheila Dean Chenevey, 61, of Statesville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in her home. She was born in Robeson County, N.C., on March 26, 1963, to Joseph A. Dean (Jeanie) and the late Janice Myers Dean.
She graduated from high school in Galaxy, Va., and in 1996 was married to Edward Thomas Chenevey, who survives. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and the Awana Bible School class. She also worked for the Iredell-Statesville Schools system as a substitute teacher and was a full-time nana.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Joshua Cranford (Georgeanna) of Statesville; two stepsons, Rev. Scott Chenevey (Lindsey) of Statesville and Andy Chenevey (Heather) of Olin; and one stepdaughter, Nanette Cockerham (Josh) of Olin. Her grandchildren include Karmen and Wyatt Cranford; Taylor, Ryan, Will, and Andrew Cockerham; Josie, Corban, and Maylin Chenevey; and Levi, Charlie, and Nora Chenevey. Her great-grandchildren include Jaxon, Tilley, and Lyla. She is further survived by her brother, Jay Dean Jr., and stepbrother, Charles Byrd.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Eanes and Rev. Paul Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fairview Baptist Church, Children’s Sunday School Department, 349 Turnersburg Highway, Statesville, NC 28625 and to the Faithful Friends Animal Rescue, 307 Hollingswood Drive, Statesville, NC 28625.

I am so sorry to hear of this! Shelia was a very sweet lady, and I always enjoyed seeing her smiling face. She subbed for me many times at North Middle, and was always so good with the students.
