FROM STAFF REPORTS
The Iredell County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday will consider a staff recommendation to allocate funding for construction of the first phase of the Fairgrounds Master Plan.
Phase I includes construction of a new arena, concessions and restrooms. Commissioners will also consider approving funding for construction of a two-story exhibit hall with office spaces.
The county has $16 million earmarked for construction of the new fairgrounds/regional event center. That figure includes $10 million that the N.C. General Assembly awarded the county for the project in the form of grants.
CPL has been working with the county on the master plan for the fairgrounds. The planning process included community surveys and stakeholder meetings
The office space could be used to house the Parks and Recreation Department staff, which would allow the county to sell or repurpose the house that the department uses.
The consultant’s plan includes construction of a 25,000-square-foot arena, two exhibit halls, three barns, an agricultural center and a hotel. The estimated price tag for the entire project is $57.6 million.
The commissioners will hold a pre-agenda meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday followed by the regular meeting at 6 p.m. Both meetings, which are open to the public, will be held at the Iredell County Government Center, located at 200 S. Center Street in Statesville.

What phase will include the horse racing track?
So now we ( the county) are building hotels? Kind of a slap in the face to taxpayers.
Staff and CPL left out horse race track, with sports betting. The casino was not mentioned also. What happened to Fair?
Sam you misunderstood, Brothel was what they meant. Trying to recruit some more Ds to
move to the county. Then we can pay for dope dispensaries with the revenue from betting on Ponies.
