FROM STAFF REPORTS
Statesville City Manager Ron Smith has appointed Emily Kurfees to serve as city clerk.
Kurfees succeeds Brenda Fugett, who retired after 14 years as city clerk.
“Emily’s dedication and exceptional service have rightly earned her this promotion, and we couldn’t be prouder to have her in this role,” the city announced on Facebook.
Kurfees was hired as deputy clerk and executive assistant to the city manager in September of 2022. She previously worked as a constituent advocate for the U.S. Senate.
In her new role, Kurfees is responsible for maintaining complete and accurate records of City Council proceedings and official city files; fulfilling legal requirements established by the city’s municipal code and North Carolina state law; ensuring that the City Council, city staff, and interested citizens are aware of issues being addressed at City Council meetings by preparing, distributing, and posting, on a timely basis, agenda materials and minutes; and ensuring the Municipal Code is accurate and routinely updated.
Kurfees earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Campbell University. She is pursuing her master’s degree in public administration from Marshall University.
