A Statesville man faces multiple charges of statutory rape and indecent liberties with a child following an investigation by the Statesville Police Department.

The SPD announced the arrest of Yulian Cardona-Ibarra, 34, of Mooring Drive, Statesville, in a news release Wednesday.

The SPD launched an investigation on April 17 after receiving a report that a juvenile had been sexually assaulted on numerous occasions over a two-year period beginning in February 2021.

Following the initial report, the juvenile was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center in Statesville. During the interview, the juvenile disclosed multiple counts of sexual abuse, according to the news release.

As a result of the investigation, Yulian Cardona-Ibarra was arrested on April 22 and charged with eight counts of statutory rape of a child age 15 or younger and one count of indecent liberties with a child.

He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where a magistrate set his bond at $200,000. He remains in custody.
