Mitchell Community College invites prospective students to attend an open house scheduled for Saturday, February 8, at the college’s Statesville campus.
The event, which starts at 10 a.m., includes breakout sessions at 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. for those interested in enrolling in programs offered throughout Iredell County.
Tours will also be available, along with information stops aimed at explaining the admissions process and opportunities for financial aid to help pay for classes.
Attendees will receive a swag bag and free lunch.
Mitchell offers multiple pathways and program options. Attendees will get an up-close look at Mitchell’s most popular majors and careers, including Nursing and Information Technology.
Prospective students will also learn about options available to high school students. Students can earn college credits — and even an associate degree — while enrolled in a high school and save thousands of dollars in college tuition.
Guests at the open house will also receive an overview of the benefits of earning an associate degree at Mitchell before heading to a four-year institution.
Many students attend a community college for the cost advantage. This option also helps students prepare for the financial demands of a four-year university if they plan on transferring, officials stated.
The cost of tuition and general fees for two years at Mitchell is approximately $5,302 for an associate degree program. The cost of tuition and fees for attending two years at a four-year state college or university ranges from $13,664 to $18,116.
Other benefits include smaller class sizes and the many types of extracurricular activities Mitchell offers, ranging from cultural events to Student Government Association and clubs.
