A Troutman woman faces drug trafficking charges after a vehicle she was traveling in was stopped for a traffic violation.

The Troutman Police Department announced the arrest of Madison M. Santana, 18, of Valley Glen Drive on social media on Monday.

On Saturday, April 27, TPD officers stopped a Ford truck occupied by the three individuals for a traffic violation in the 100 block of S. Main Street about 5:05 p.m., police said.

According to the news release, Santana threw a backpack out of the vehicle during the stop. Officers searched the backpack, which landed underneath the truck, and founded 33 blue tablets that tested positive for fentanyl, 2.08 grams of a powdered substance that tested positive for fentanyl, 9.78 ounces of THC wax, and 4.46 ounces of marijuana, police said.

Santana admitted to officers that the backpack belonged to her, according to the news release.

She was placed under arrest for the charges of felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, felony possession with intent to sell/deliver a Schedule I controlled substance, felony trafficking opium/heroin by possession and transporting, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Santana was taken before a magistrate, who issued a $300,000.00 secure bond. The suspect remained in the Iredell County Detention Center on Monday.
