Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney and Mooresville police Chief Ron Campurciani issued the following statement on Wednesday about the tragic events of April 29:

On behalf of the Town of Mooresville Board of Commissioners, staff, and community, we extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, and the entire law enforcement community.

Four brave law enforcement professionals made the ultimate sacrifice yesterday while serving and protecting our community. Our hearts are broken, and we mourn the lives cut short by these senseless actions.

This tragedy has impacted our community, our region, and our country. It transcends cities, agencies, affiliations, and all things that divide us. This tragedy impacts all who knew these heroes, whether in their professional careers, their personal lives, or simply as fellow community members. This tragedy impacts Mooresville, and we are deeply saddened by this loss.

We extend our support to and are steadfast in our unity with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, co-workers, and loved ones of the fallen and wounded law enforcement professionals. We stand with you during this most difficult time.

Our community is shaken, but we are strong together. We are dedicated to keeping the memory of these heroes alive by continuing our commitment to the safety and security of our residents, visitors, and those who serve and protect. The sacrifice made by these selfless law enforcement professionals will not be forgotten.
