Iredell Health System announced Thursday that Iredell Memorial Hospital’s emergency department expansion is now complete. The first patient was admitted to the new space at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
“The opening of the emergency department additional rooms today is the culmination of prompt and strong efforts, led by our Board of Directors, to address the needs of the Statesville area. The additional and unbudgeted $9.6 million approved by the Board in later 2022 to enhance the emergency department and to open an extended hours urgent care, has already been beneficial for prompt care,” said John Green, president and CEO of Iredell Health System.
To meet the growing needs of the community, Iredell Memorial Hospital’s emergency department has now expanded by 4,805 square feet. The expansion includes the addition of 10 new treatment spaces, including several new exam rooms, three spacious critical care rooms for patients needing that level of care upon entering the emergency department, as well as four secure behavioral health holding rooms, with a special entrance and exit for patient privacy.
“We are so thankful to offer this for our community. It has been a challenging couple of years as we have adjusted to increased patient volumes, but we have persevered and been able to continue to offer patients the best care. We are delighted to now have these 10 additional rooms open,” said Rhonda Ruppe, Emergency Department director.
The expansion was announced in December of 2022 after the announcement of Davis Regional Medical Center’s closing. The expansion of the critical care unit is still underway. The project team responsible for the construction and design of the expansion includes The Beck Group, Syska Hennessy, and Rodgers Builders, Inc.
“We are excited to continue to proactively prepare for the growth in our community while providing quality care at all hours,” said Green.

Nice looking area. Now get some good employees so you don’t have to wait 6-8 hours to see a doctor. Sick people can’t wait that long and shouldn’t have to.
“Get some good employees “ Having worked at several hospitals I will go to Iredell anytime. If you can provide better care faster, I suggest you apply. We are fortunate to have an excellent hospital locally.
The wait time in ER is ridiculous. My last visit was many hours and when finally put in room sent home without seeing a doctor. This was with heart problem. Not being able to see personal doctor and being very rude to my doctor when he called in is not acceptable.
