Larry Hobart Bailey passed away peacefully on May 4,2024, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born on March 26, 1941, in Kingsport, Tenn.
After graduating from Richlands High School in Richlands, Va., he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) in Blacksburg, Va., where he earned a degree in business. Upon graduation, he started his career with JP Stevens & Co. Larry spent most of his professional career in textiles and later in furniture. After calling Virginia, South Carolina, and various parts of North Carolina home, he and his wife Margaret settled in Mooresville, N.C., in 1998.
Larry’s passions included boating, fishing, and sports, especially watching the Atlanta Braves and Virginia Tech Hokies, and spending time with family. He was a selfless father who always supported his daughters and embraced the interest of his granddaughters. Larry was a devoted Christian and member of Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Until his illness, he regularly attended Men’s Bible study and EverReady’s Senior Adult Ministry. Known for his positive attitude and wit, he was well loved by many.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clell G. and Margaret W. Bailey, and brother, Clell G. Bailey Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Bailey; his daughters, Tina Wiggins and Beverly Simmons; grandchildren, Lauren (John) D’Ambrosio, Vanessa Simmons and Ailey Simmons; and sons-in-law, Keith Simmons, and Roy Wiggins. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Lemmond of Wilmington, N.C., along with close cousins, a niece and nephew.
