Bette Luckritz Shannon, 98, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the . Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville. She was born on July 25, 1925, in Dubuque, Iowa, to the late Herman and Helen Hilbert Luckritz.

Bette grew up in Washington, D.C., and worked for the Federal Government, NASA, and NIMH for 38 years. She traveled the world with her friends before she was married as well as with her husband Tom. Bette created beautiful art with her cross stitch. She was an avid reader and would always win at word games. Bette was known as the “Webster Dictionary.” Tom and Bette loved to play Blackjack and were frequent flyers at casinos in Laughlin, Nev., and Indian Reservations in Arizona and Montana. Her greatest joy was watching her nine great-grandchildren grow up the last eight years. If it wasn’t for her, none of us “the family” would be here!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Thomas J. Shannon; and one grandchild, Tommi.

Those left to cherish Bette’s memory are her children, Terri Greenwell of Troutman, N.C., and Timothy Shannon of Derwood, Md.; grandchildren, Joseph Greenwell and Cassandra Elizondo; and great grandchildren, Michael Greenwell, Scarlett Goodrich, Braylon Jones, Hailey Greenwell, Ashton Mills, Matthew Greenwell, Joey Greenwell, Anthony Greenwell and Maverick Jordan.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
