Antoinette “Toni” Marcano, 77, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 16th, 2024. Her husband of 45 years, Edward “Ed” Marcano, recently predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughters, Christy Lee (Roy), Susan Panak (David), and Sharon Hanzl (Jerry); grandchildren, David Panak Jr. (Donald), Mallory Panak, Zachary Panak (Kaitlynn), and Benjamin Hanzl (Crystal); great grandchildren Madilyn, Sienna, Nolan and Oliver; brothers, Tom (Cathy) and Laddie (Donna); nieces and nephews Tommy Marous (Loren), Nicole Marous, Christina Carlson, Nina Griffith, Stephanie Headly (Dennis), and Matthew Marous (Bobbi-Jo); numerous great nieces and nephews including Jeffrey Carlson; and good friend, Dale Watson.
She was born on May 15, 1947, in Newbury, Ohio, to the late Laddie F. Marous and Nina L. (Hillman) Marous. After losing her own mother at an early age, she was raised by her “second mom,” Anna (nee Vins) Marous. She retired from Lucent Technologies after 32 years of service in several capacities, including warehouse manager and human resources. Early in her career she was the first woman promoted to a supervisory position in her department and later served on the transition team during the merger of AT&T and NCR. During her tenure, she and her family moved multiple times from Ohio to Indiana, to Tennessee, and finally to North Carolina.
After retirement, she worked several part-time jobs, most recently for over fifteen years as the receptionist for Trendsetters. In that role, she made many friends and will be missed by all.
Toni lived to help others. In addition to caring for her husband and several friends over the past few years, she loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She even found time to make little gifts for those around her, keeping up with crafty social media trends. Known for her exceptional cooking skills, receiving the 1965 Crisco Award for Outstanding Student in Home Economics, a homemade meal delivered by Toni would not be uncommon. She had a special place in her heart for her four-legged friends, always remembering to bring special treats when she visited. Recently, she enjoyed “ducking Jeeps” with her great-grandchildren as well as watching dog movies. Toni loved flowers, especially her solar garden that still lights up the evening sky. Toni was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date to be determined.
If you desire, please make donations to your favorite charity in Toni’s name or as she has shown us, be a guardian angel to someone by providing a special gift, a home-cooked meal, or a treat for a four-legged friend.
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family.
