It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald “Donnie” Dale Corns, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Donnie passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the age of 66, while surrounded by his loving family at his home in Mooresville, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Eloise (Blankenship) Corns and his sister, Judy Butcher.

Born on December 16, 1957, in Man, W.Va., he graduated from Man High School in 1976 and went on to work in the coal industry. After moving to Mooresville with his family, he worked in various manufacturing positions. Donnie’s passion for family was profound, and he found immense joy in spending time with his granddaughter, Cecilia (CeCe), who calls him “Poppaw Dearest Love of My Life.”

Known for his sharp mind and love of word games, Donnie was always up for a friendly challenge, whether it be on the basketball court with his son Christopher, or out on the lake, indulging in his love for boating and jet skiing, and taking vacations with his daughters and stepsons. He was a lifelong member of Claypool United Methodist Church in Davin, W.Va.

Donnie’s memory will live on in the hearts of his loving wife, Alicia Matson Corns; his children, Joshua Toler (LeeAnna), Timothy Toler, Erin Corns, Katie Corns, and Christopher Corns; his sister, Margaret Meade (John); and his granddaughter, Cecilia (CeCe), along with numerous special nieces and nephews.

Donnie was an adventurous eater and loved trying new foods. He loved watching travel shows. He loved Saturday Night Live because it made him laugh more than anything given his sense of humor.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Donnie will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville. Another Celebration of Life will be held on June 1 at Claypool United Methodist Church in Davin, W.Va., from 3 to 5 p.m.
