James “Jimmy” Larkin Reavis, 80, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, at his home.

Born in Iredell County on April 2, 1944, he was the son of the late Vance Reavis and Margaret Morrison Reavis. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny Reavis and Robert Reavis, and a sister, Virginia Seats.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 59 years, Rachel Patterson Reavis; and two daughters, Amy Reavis Miller and Wendy Reavis McKinney (Derek). He is also survived by grandchildren, Amber Miller (Nathan Wyatt), Benjamin Miller (Chelsea), Taylor McKinney and Addison McKinney Miethe (Noah). He also leaves behind four great grandchildren, Jaxon Wyatt, Callie Miller, and Riley and Chloe Miethe.

Jimmy was a graduate of Scotts High School and retired from Kewaunee Scientific in Statesville. He was a long-time member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church and ordained there as a deacon in 1971. A proud member of the Central Volunteer Fire Department, he served for over 30 years as a firefighter and held several positions, including Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Known for his sense of humor, Jimmy enjoyed camping, golfing, bowling, motorcycles and working in his yard. He will be remembered for his love of family and selfless service to his community.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Rocky Hill Baptist Church. Members of the Central Volunteer Fire Department will escort the body to the church at 2:30 p.m. and serve as pall bearers and honor guard. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. The funeral service is scheduled for 4 p.m. with Rev Ronnie Millsaps officiating and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Central Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund, 4634 Wilkesboro Highway, Statesville, NC 28625.
