Cora Mae Rumple Compton, 87, of Statesville, N.C., passed away at the Gordon Hospice House of Iredell County on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. She was born in Troutman, N.C., to the late Kenneth Rumple and the late Velma Teague Rumple.

She graduated from Troutman High School in 1955. Cora worked as a fabric weaver at Uniglass Industries for 17 and a half years and then Clark Equipment as a machine operator and assembler for 17 and a half more years. She married her first late husband, Edgar Loren Compton, and then her second late husband, Roy Wellington Poovey. She was a member of New Sterling A.R.P. Church in Stony Point, N.C.

Along with her husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Compton Elliott; a grandson, Daniel Goodman; a brother, Donald Rumple; a half-brother, D.H. Cherry; a nephew, Kenneth Rumple; and a niece, Diane Rumple.

Those who survive include two daughters, Catherine Murdock (Bruce) of Newton, N.C., and Karen Goodman of Statesville, N.C.; a son, Edgar Compton Jr. (Lori) of Statesville, N.C.; a son-in-law, Mark Elliott (Kim) of Statesville, N.C.; many grandchildren, Krysta, David, Hannah, Kattie, Gary, Madison, and Merritt; step-grandchildren, Kyle, and Brandon Manaa; and a stepdaughter, Teresa Manaa (Louie) of Swansea, S.C. Seven great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at New Sterling A.R.P. Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Sterling A.R.P. Church, 580 New Sterling Road, Stony Point, NC 28678, and Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
