Vernon Richard Dartt, 90, passed lovingly into the arms of Jesus on Thursday May 23, 2024. He was surrounded by his family as he transitioned to his Heavenly home.

Papa Burney was loved deeply by so many. Vernon was born to parents William “Pete” Dartt and Emma Etta Dowling on May 15, 1934. He graduated from Elkland High School. Vernon later married his high school sweetheart, Olive Jean Empson, in 1955. Together, they created a life and family of two children, Joy and Jay. Vernon served his country during the Korean War from 1954-1956 in the United States Marine Corps. After his service in the military, Vernon started his career with Ingersol Rand in Painted Post, N.Y. He later moved his family to Mocksville, N.C. An active member of Blaze Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and participated in the church bus ministry. In later years, he was an active member of Fork Baptist Church as a deacon. Vernon had a heart of service; he cared for the elderly and families that were less fortunate.

Papa leaves behind five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in honor and loving memory of Vernon Dartt on Sunday June 2, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville.
