Jerome “Jerry” Harvey Lynch, 70, of Troutman, N.C., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on August 30, 1949 in Milwaukee, Wis., he was a son of the late Richard and Carolmary Heathcote Lynch. Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, Wis.
Mr. Lynch was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam for 13 months from 1968-1969. Jerry was a door gunner in the 195th Assault Huey Helicopter Company, serving and supporting special-ops and Green Barrie Base Camp-Long Bin. He also flew and supported troops out of Quanloi, and flew over the border into Cambodia on undercover missions. He married his wife Joannie in 1975 and had two children. They moved to the Carolinas in 1993. Jerry retired from CF Trucking in 1994. After retirement, he drove a transporter for Penske Racing and motor coaches.
He is survived by his wife who was his world of 44 years, Joan Gaffke Lynch; children, Jennifer Carolmary Bainbridge (Blake) and Jered Richard Lynch (fiancé, Corey Seacrist); sister, Marlyn Schueler (Kevin); and grandchildren, Macy and Brooks Bainbridge, and Hayden Lynch.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 16, from 3 to 4 p.m. with a service following at 4 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army following the service. Services will be held in Wisconsin at a later date.
