James Pressly Dagenhart, 93, a native of Statesville, N.C., and lately of Rock Hill, S.C., died Saturday, June 1, 2024, following a ten-month illness. He was born August 12, 1930, in western Iredell County, and was a son of the late Carl Alexander and Mary McNeely Dagenhart. He was a graduate of Celeste Henkel School and the UNC School of Banking.
He was a life-long member of New Sterling ARP Church, where he served as a deacon, church treasurer, and as an elder for 36 years. The congregation bestowed on him the title of Elder Emeritus in 2005. He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and obtained his private pilot’s license. He was Vice President of the Statesville Northwestern Bank, First Union Bank, and following early retirement from First Union, was City Executive for the Bank of Iredell during its first ten years. He was active in the Statesville Jaycees and the Statesville Exchange Club.
Surviving are two sons, James Steven Dagenhart of Lenoir, N.C., and the Rev. Dr. J. Barry Dagenhart (Sarah) of Rock Hill, S.C.; six grandchildren, Stacey Abernathy (Todd), Erin Mosher (Joey), Kirk Dagenhart (Jennifer), Jamey Dagenhart (Tiffany), Rachel Kirby (Tyler) and April Rosby (Jeff); and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Colleen Poole Dagenhart. He later married Eleanor Brinegar, who preceded him in death, as did his brother Melvin Dagenhart, and sister Mildred Watt.
The funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at New Sterling ARP Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert W. Bell officiating. Burial will be in the New Sterling Church Cemetery. Following the burial, the family will greet friends in the fellowship hall.
