Frye Gaillard, a well-known former Southern editor at the Charlotte Observer and writer in residence at the University of South Alabama, will discuss faith and social justice during an appearance at the Iredell Arts Council on Thursday, June 6.

Galliard’s appearance is the latest installment of the Art & Soul series sponsored by Grace Baptist. This free event begins at 7 p.m.

Galliard will read excerpts from his many books, offering a glimpse into how he sees the world and how he brings his ideas to life on paper. He has 30 books under his belt, including award-winners like “A Hard Rain: America in the 1960s” and “Cradle of Freedom: Alabama and the Movement that Changed America.”

“Frye has spent his life engaged with the public sphere. He has worked as a person of faith and with God’s passion for justice and freedom. In our many years of friendship, I have met few with his insight and ability to articulate what we must consider as we live our lives in public,” said Steve Shoemaker, pastor at Grace Baptist Church.

After each reading, Shoemaker will share his thoughts, adding another layer to the discussion.

Together, Gaillard and Shoemaker will lead the audience on a journey of discovery, exploring how faith, our personal journeys, and the fight for justice all intersect.

The Iredell Arts Council is located at 203 S. Meeting Street in Statesville.
