Fern Elizabeth Mathis Meredith, 94, of Statesville, N.C., died Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at her home. She was born in Wilkes County, N.C., on April 22, 1930, to the late Claude Mathis and Ethel Staley Mathis.

Fern was a hairdresser for more than 60 years, retiring in her mid 80s. She loved her work and loved people. She enjoyed going to the Outer Banks and playing Solitaire. One of her greatest pleasures was going shopping with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Michael Meredith; four grandchildren, Dane Meredith (Elizabeth), Chad Cooley (Chrystal), Dwight Hilton (Amy), and Brandon Meredith (Rebekah); ten great-grandchildren, Henry Meredith, Catherine Meredith, Corbin Cooley, Caden Cooley, Adalyn Meredith, Maci Meredith, Jacob Meredith, Micah Meredith, Arielle Meredith, and Abel Meredith.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Oakdale Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Pastor Tony Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Cranberry Baptist Church Cemetery, 1131 Wilkes Yadkin Road, Roaring River, NC 28669. The family will visit with friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
