Mrs. Nancy Lay Dixon, 95, of Harmony, N.C., passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C. Mrs. Dixon, a native of Iredell County, was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Rev. Calvin Wayne Dixon. She was the daughter of the late Ira Lee Lay and Addie Brown Lay, also of Iredell County.
Mrs. Dixon is survived by her daughter, Kathy Dixon, Esq. of Iredell County; grandson, Barton Ramsey (Frances) of Durham; son, Gary Dixon of Glendale Springs; grandson Dustin Dixon, also of Glendale Springs; son, Charles “Chuck” Dixon (Lori) of Iredell County; granddaughter, Bridget Dixon; and three great grandchildren, Luke and Zeb Dixon and Calvin “Cal” Ramsey.
Also surviving are Mrs. Dixon’s brother, Joseph Lay (Nancy) of Troutman, along with nieces and nephews from the Dixon and Lay families. She was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law.
Mrs. Dixon and Rev. Dixon served in the pastorate of many churches during their forty-five years in ministry throughout North Carolina as well as Washington, D.C. On the journey, Mrs. Dixon served alongside her husband Wayne with elegance, dignity, grace, wisdom, and a little humor. Notable was her creative and imaginative mind. Those gifts expressed themselves over her lifetime in her work as an artist, an extraordinary seamstress, a national award-winning craftswoman, and in the way in which she created a beautiful home for her family. She was a quintessentially Southern woman and minister’s wife. Known by so many as a confidante, a problem solver, and a voice of reason in the chaos of life, sound counsel and advice were always her trademark. She loved completely and unconditionally, gave sacrificially, and will be deeply missed. It is fitting that her love and nurturing mannerism, inspired by her deep devotion to God, will be her legacy.
A graveside service honoring Mrs. Dixon’s life will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at eleven o’clock in the morning, at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville. Rev. Steve Kramm of Bethel Baptist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
Troutman Funeral Home is serving the family during this time.
