Carolyn Margaret Coryell, MD, 73, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
She was born on July 24, 1950 in Detroit, Mich., to the late William and Margaret E. Coryell, PhD. Dr. Coryell was a 1968 graduate of Richmond Academy in Augusta, Ga., and a 1972 graduate of Emory University, where she was a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority, as well as Phi Beta Kappa Society. In 1976, she received her Board Certificate in Urology from the American Board of Urology from Emory University School of Medicine. She was employed with and former president of Piedmont HealthCare. Dr. Coryell was an avid tennis and golf enthusiast as well and was involved with her champion show dog, Poet.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia D. Coryell, DVM.
She was a beloved mother of Michelle Coryell Malbin (Robert Craig Geiger II) of Statesville, N.C.; grandmother of Draven Hendrix Geiger, Sayler Grae Geiger, Waylon King Geiger, Scotlyn Jaymes Geiger, and Mckeon Monroe Geiger, all of Statesville, N.C.; sister of William Coryell, MD (Kathy) of Iowa City, Iowa; aunt of Matthew Coryell and Julie Coryell; sister-in-law of Catherine Mitchell of Shiloh, Ill.; aunt of Vincent Thomas Mitchell (Emilia) of Elizabethtown, Ky.; and ex-wife of Andrew S. Malbin, MD of Tampa, Fla.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 24, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at Thomas King Funeral Home in Martinez, Ga. Burial will follow the service at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, Ga.
