James “Jim” John Ziats, 74, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, N.C.
He was born on August 18, 1949, in Ohio to the late James and Irene Ridilla Ziats. Jim was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force, where he was a K-9 handler. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knight of Columbus Assembly #2417 in Denver, N.C., and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #572. He was also a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville. Jim enjoyed hanging out at the Welcome Home Veterans Richard’s Coffee Shop, riding motorcycles, and flying hobby planes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Johnnie Ziats; and his brother, Donald Ziats.
He is survived by his daughters, Tania Cook (Mark) and Yvonne Truan (Michael); first wife, Lorraine Vadnais; brother, Nicholas Ziats (Luci); sister, Marcia Kaminski (Lenny); grandchildren, Jason Cook, Sean Cook, and Sophia Ziats; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville, with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Welcome Home Veterans Richard’s Coffee Shop, 165 N. Main Street, Mooresville, NC 28115.
