Dolores Eisele Sink passed away with a prayer on her lips on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a long and beautiful life.
Dolores Margaret “Dodie” Eisele was born Oct 22, 1932, in Huntington, Ind. In the 1940s, her parents, Emmett Eisele and Corinne Kindler Eisele, moved the family to Statesville, N.C., where they raised their eleven children on Mulberry Street.
After high school, Dodie attended East Carolina University before transferring to UNC Chapel Hill, where she graduated in 1954 with a B.S. in Medical Technology. She moved back home in order to help the family and worked at Davis Hospital in Statesville.
In 1960, Dodie was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the Women’s Army Corps, where she served honorably until her marriage to Air Force officer Joe Sink. The couple was stationed in Maine, Maryland, and Arkansas over the next 10 years before retiring to Mooresville, N.C.
Dodie spent many years working as a medical technologist, raising their two children, and volunteering in the community. Notably, she served the Town of Mooresville for decades on the Town Planning Board. Dodie was a devoted member of St. Therese Catholic Church for more than 50 years, where she had many friends and attended mass almost daily. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and took care of church linens as part of the Church Mice team. She was also an active member of the SWAT (Special Works and Tasks) Team, where she was known for her deviled eggs and sweet tea.
Dodie is survived by her son David Sink and his wife Beth, as well as her daughter Linda and husband Sander Smith. Five grandchildren knew her as Nana, Corinne Krome (husband Reese Krome), Alex Smith, Graham Smith, Rose Sink, and Emma Smith. She is also survived by three brothers, Pete Eisele (Loretta), John Eisele, and Alan Eisele (Bonita). Nieces and nephews, too numerous to name but all cherished, will remember their Aunt Dodie with fondness.
Dodie was predeceased by her parents as well as her beloved husband of 53 years, Joe; and siblings Barbara Eisele Blood (the late Don Blood), Carolyn Eisele Brawley (the late Buddy Brawley), Phyllis Eisele Smith (the late Gene Smith), David Eisele (Amy), Doug Eisele (Sally), Jim Eisele (the late Becky Eisele), and Pris Eisele Kimel (the late Michael Kimel). In addition, she was predeceased by members of her treasured family-in-law, Joe Sink Sr. and Georgia Sink, Henry Sink (Lou), and June Sink Rummage (the late Wayne Rummage).
Memorials may be made to St. Therese Catholic Church, Mooresville, N.C., designated for Community Ministries, or to a charity of your choice.
