Mr. Charlie Gray Smith, 64, of Woodleaf, N.C., passed away on July 27, 2024 at his residence. A native of Rowan County, N.C., he was the son of the late Uyless Melvin and Kathryn Victoria Reavis Smith.
He was retired from the City of Statesville as a Technical Services Supervisor and served as a member of the board of ElectriCities. He was a member of Jericho Church of Christ and was active in his church and community. He also was an avid car enthusiast and was a member of the Salisbury Downtown Cruisers.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Renita Sue York Smith; by his sons, Josh Smith and wife Katheryn of Mocksville, N.C., and Sam Smith and wife Brianna of Woodleaf; by a sister, Carol Smith Allen of Salisbury, N.C.; and by two grandchildren, Jessie-Marie Avery Smith and Wyatt Henry Smith. A host of nieces and nephews, seven “granddoggers” and his beloved fur baby Max also survive him.
A funeral service celebrating Charlie’s life will be held in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 6 p.m. with Pastor Jack Lipsey officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m., prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Scotch Irish Fire Department; 3220 Needmore Road; Woodleaf, NC 27054.
