Iredell County drivers will soon have a smoother ride on approximately 12 miles of Interstate 77 in Iredell County thanks to a $21.4 million contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
The project spans the highway from Exit 36 (NC 150) in Mooresville to the south of Exit 49 (U.S. 70) in Statesville.
The contractor, Maymead Inc. of Mountain City, Tenn., will be responsible for pavement rehabilitation through the project limits. The roadway will be patched where needed and then two inches of asphalt surface course will be added throughout most of the area. About 95,000 tons of material are expected to be used in the project.
A friction course overlay will also be placed to help reduce stormwater runoff and spraying during rain events. Approximately 130,000 linear feet of rumble strips and 335,000 linear feet of pavement markings will be installed, too.
The contract also includes resurfacing the ramps and installing new guardrail within the project limits.
Work can start as early as late August and be complete in late fall of 2026.
This will be a traffic nightmare, but it needs to be done!
Two years to repave 12 miles?
They need to add a third lane.
Thumbs up
