Marsha “Blackie” Kay Hazelwood Barnett, 66, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on September 9, 2024, at her home residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mercer County, W.Va., on May 23, 1958, to the late William and Vernie Hazelwood.

Blackie was a quality control inspector for Canac Kitchens. She willingly volunteered for many things, including the West Iredell High School Booster Club, West Iredell High School Huddle Club, Special Olympics and Boy Scouts of America. She loved coaching and had a passion for basketball, softball, and soccer. Blackie was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church and was married for nearly 48 years to Lee Barnett Jr., who survives. Along with many other things, Blackie loved her horses and her dog, Bo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Hazelwood; daughter, Heather Kay Reavis-Menendez; and her son, Lee Barnett III (J.R.), “her favorite.” She was also preceded by her grandparents, stepfather, and multiple aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her husband, Lee Barnett Jr.; her daughter, Angela Barnett; two grandsons, Jonathon Barnett (Kennedy Rice) and Gabriel Lester; two granddaughters, Gracie Barnett and Mya Lester; a brother, Gordy Hazelwood; and an aunt, Joyce Reese. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, September 12, from 5 until 7 p.m. at 130 Quiet Acres Trail, Harmony, N.C. If anyone would like to drop anything off, you may do so from 12 p.m. until. The family will visit with friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 13, at Troutman Funeral Home. A second visitation will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Bradley Cemetery in Lindside, W.Va.
