Iredell County Sheriff’s Office threat assessment investigators spent the weekend tracking multiple threats of school violence circulating on social media and have determined that no “verified threats” have been made against schools in the county.
“It’s important to note that these threats are being shared nationwide and appear to be copied and reposted frequently,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a message posted on its official app. “At this time, no verified threats have been made against any schools in Iredell County.”
The ICSO has been in constant communication with Iredell-Statesville Schools officials, working to ensure the safety of students and staff, the message said,
“As a precaution, we’ve increased law enforcement presence at local schools. Our patrol deputies and criminal investigators are conducting regular check-ins to provide added reassurance and security.”
The Sheriff’s Office also reminded students and parents to be mindful of what is shared or posted online.
“Even reposting or sharing unverified information can lead to law enforcement involvement and unnecessary alarm. Please think carefully before sharing content that could have serious consequences,” the message said.
The Sheriff’s Office stressed that true emergency situations, including verified current threats to our schools, will be posted on the Iredell County Sheriff’s App first.
