Robert “Bobby” Alexander Darne, 82, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at his home, with his wife of 62 years by his side. He was born January 28, 1942, in Virginia, to the late George Alexander Darne and Mildred Geneva Wortman Darne.

He was the president/owner of a home building company. Bobby was a born leader. Starting as president of the band in high school, football player and cross-country runner. He was a Lowe’s store manager and part owner of a Yamaha Motorcycle franchise. When he was not working, he raced Go Karts and Stock cars and then became a NASCAR race official. He loved God, family, friends, golf, snow skiing, and football, and his passion was auto racing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven Brett Darne.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Stanton Darne; daughter, Kelly Ann Darne; son, Michael Douglas Darne; grandchildren, Abby Kate Darne, Heather Shannon Wolfe, Tyler Dalton Darne (wife, Katelyn Darne), Brittney Nicole Darne, Allyson, Kara, Cameryn, and Braeden Conroy; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Carter, Cayden, Cayleigh, and Lynnlee.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, October 1, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mark Pitts officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Heritage House of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
