Frederick “Rick” George Lampe Jr., 69, of Statesville, N.C., passed from this life on Friday, September 27, 2024, after fighting a valiant battle against cancer. Born on February 27, 1955, he was the son of the late Frederick George and Millicent June Martin Lampe Sr.

Rick graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1977 and then received his MBA in Finance from UNC-Greensboro. He spent 20 years in military service and he sailed around the world. After his retirement, Rick became an entrepreneur and founded various LLCs. He was president and CEO of Mariner Container. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, golfing, jet-skiing, yardwork and playing with his dog, Lily. He was particularly gifted as a handyman and was known as a jack of all trades. From fixing cars and any household appliance, he loved keeping everything in good running order and wasn’t afraid to tackle any new challenge.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Cheryl Waggener; stepson, Justin Waggener; sister-in-law, Renee C. Scheidt, brothers, Chris (Kelli), John (Elaine); and sisters, Pam Sprague and Nancy Barrymore; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, October 12, at New Salem United Methodist Church, 155 New Salem Road, Statesville. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service to follow.
