William Ronald “Ron” Davidson Sr., 77, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center.
He was born on July 19, 1947, in Norfolk, Va., to the late Charles Cephus Davidson and Marietta Johnson Davidson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia W. Davidson; his granddaughter, Nadia Jenae Davidson; and his brother, Thomas Davidson.
A proud veteran, Ron served his country honorably and retired from the U.S. Coast Guard, where he worked as a port security boarding officer. He also worked for the Norfolk Redevelopment Housing Authority as a Project Manager.
Ron graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1965 and went on to graduate from Norfolk State University in 1972 with a B.S. in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Safety, with a minor in Business. At NSU, he was a member of the Norfolk State University Spartans Marching Band, where he developed a lifelong love for music and camaraderie.
He was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and was known for his dedication to his family and his community. His legacy of humor, service, and love will be remembered by all who knew him. One of his famous sayings, “Must Is… Because Must Ain’t Don’t Sound Right,” will resonate in our thoughts and memories forever.
He is survived by his ex-wife and caregiver, Victoria C. Davidson; his two sons, William R. Davidson Jr. (Devonna) and Jason N. Davidson (DeAnna); his cherished grandchildren, Neal J. Davidson (Brittany), Harmony M. Davidson, and Jadyn C. Davidson; his great-grandchild, Noah N. Davidson; and his brothers, Charles H. Davidson (Marie) and Raymond C. George (Ruth); all of whom will miss him dearly.
He was a devoted member of Roots In Christ Ministries, pastored by his son, Rev. William R. Davidson Jr. Ron found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren, and he never missed an opportunity to express his love and pride in them to everyone he met.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a service immediately following at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. His son, Rev. William R. Davidson Jr., will officiate the service. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, at Salisbury National Cemetery.
