The Troutman Police Department has released the names of a woman who died and two men who were injured in a crash that shut down South Main Street for about three hours on Tuesday. 

The crash occurred about 12:59 p.m. when a vehicle driven by Troutman resident Mildred Jones, 85, turned left from Autumn Leaf Road into the path of a dump truck traveling south on South Main Street, resulting in a collision between the vehicles, according to a TPD news release.

The dump truck then rolled onto its passenger side and struck a truck pulling a trailer that was waiting to turn left from South Main Street onto Autumn Leaf Road. This second collision resulted in the truck and trailer being forced back into a TPD patrol vehicle that was waiting in traffic behind the truck, police said.

As a result of the collision, Mildred Jones and her passenger, Kenneth Jones, 87, also of Troutman, suffered serious injuries. They were transported to area medical centers, where Mildred Jones succumbed to her injuries, according to the news release.

The driver of the dump truck, William Wallace, 46, of Hudson was also transported to a hospital.

The TPD investigation of this crash is ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed.

Responding agencies included Iredell County EMS, Troutman Fire & Rescue, the TPD and the N.C. Department of Transportation.
