Jane Julian Onsrud, 87, of Davidson, N.C., passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2024. Born on September 20, 1937, in Winston-Salem, N.C., she was the beloved daughter of the late William Alexander Julian Sr. and Novella Kirkman Julian.

Jane was a lifelong learner, earning her degree from UNC-Greensboro Women’s College and sharing her passion for knowledge with young minds as a devoted third-grade teacher for many years.

Jane was blessed with a deep and enduring love, having been married for 50 years to her soulmate, Charles Rudolph Onsrud, who preceded her in death in 2021. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, and community. As a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Statesville, N.C, Jane’s faith was her compass, and her warm spirit and kind heart touched all who knew her. Jane was actively involved in her community, contributing her time and energy to several charitable organizations, most notably the American Heart Association, where she was honored with several awards for her efforts. She also enjoyed serving her local community through her volunteer work with the Board of Elections. Beyond her charitable efforts, Jane found happiness in simple pleasures. She loved spending time on Lake Norman and at the beach with her friends and family, enjoyed her weekly Rummikub and Bridge games, and took pleasure in social gatherings with her many dear friends.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. Jane leaves behind a legacy of love through her sons, Tom Onsrud (Shelley) of Mooresville, Bill Onsrud (Betty) of Mooresville, and John Onsrud (Amelia) of Union Grove. Her grandchildren, Alyson Strickland (Michael), Jeff Onsrud (Jennifer), Kelly Staton (Jordan), David Onsrud (Marina), James Onsrud, and Nancy Onsrud, will forever carry the memory of their “Nana” in their hearts. She was a proud “Grana” to Charley and Jack Strickland, Eva and Harrison Onsrud, and Elsie Onsrud. Jane also treasured her relationships with her sisters-in-law, Chloris Julian, Carole Julian, and Carolyn O’Brien, and found great joy in time spent with Tracey Schultz (Mike), Ashley Rohats (Daniel), Shane Julian, Mark Julian (Melissa), Susan Lind (Jim, deceased), and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom she adored.

In addition to her husband and parents, Jane was preceded in death by her brothers, William “Buddy” Julian Jr. and Van Julian, and nephew David Julian, but their memory lived on through her stories and shared laughter.

Jane’s family invites friends and loved ones to a celebration of her life at First Presbyterian Church in Statesville, N.C., on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jeremy Canada officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends for a reception at the Statesville Country Club from 3 to 5 p.m., where all are welcome to share their memories and celebrate Jane’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org/Charlotte or by mail to 5445 77 Center Drive, Suite 60, Charlotte, NC 28217.

Troutman Funeral Home is serving the family.
