Ms. Emily Michelle Heaggans, 54, of Statesville, N.C., passed away at her home on Saturday, October 19, 2024. She was born in Iredell County on September 3, 1971, and was the daughter of Joseph Theodore Heaggans Sr. and the late Dorothy Seigle Heaggans. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Helena Heaggans, and a nephew, Carmelokris Brinson.

Bae, as she was affectionately called, was a 1989 graduate of Statesville High School and a 1997 graduate of Winston-Salem State University. She was a faithful, devoted member of Word of Life Family Worship Center in Salisbury, where she served as a children’s church teacher and the church photographer. She was employed as the director of Small Beginnings Childcare Center. She enjoyed reading, shopping online, cooking, and most of all taking care of her family.

Her love lives on through her father, Joseph Theodore Heaggans Sr.; seven brothers, Joseph T. (Tammy) Heaggans Jr. of Statesville, Christopher (Angela) Heaggans of Statesville, Eric Heaggans of Statesville, Marvin (Michelle) Heaggans of Davidson, Dr. Raphael Heaggans of Washington, D.C., Charles (Marlecia Kay) Heaggans of Statesville, and Corey (Katika) Heaggans of Villa Rica, Ga.; two sisters, Gwen (Craig “DAP”) Morrison and Tammy (Tony) Kesler, both of Statesville; aunts and uncles, Rev. Doris (Jay) Glaspy of Newark, N.J., Elder Josephine (James) Peck of Spencer, Elizabeth Burton and Dr. Martha (Elder Clinton) Starks of Granite Quarry, Minister Cindy Wilson of New Port News Virginia and Ygerne Gibson of Salisbury, Vernie (John) Smith of Cleveland, Alfreda (Robert) Blackwell and Melzeta Heaggans, both of Troutman, and Shirley Seigle of Thomasville, and George Stevenson of Statesville. She loved her nieces and nephews, Craig Morrison Jr. and Chadwick Morrison, Valerie Heaggans, Tramaine (Kingsley) Harrison, Erica Martin, Naomi Kwinji, Tamia Heaggans, Brittany McCain, Shakeema McCain, Ambricka McCain, Charli Heaggans, Shamia Davis, Dominique Lassiter, Tyler Heaggans, Garbriel Heaggans, Justin Davidson, Donnie Davidson Jr., Marvin (Ashlely) Heaggans, Antionne (Clorrisa) Heaggans, Marzel Allison, Isaiah Stevenson, Charleston Heaggans, Randal Russell, and Rafi Blout; special, special nieces, LeLe Peck and Caydence Martin; special friends, Gwendolyn Stephens, Kesha Gresham, Tonya Linney, and Kenya Clyburn; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors, church family and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Friday, October 25, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Christian Outreach of the Piedmont. Ms. Heaggans will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home until taken to the church to lie in state at 12:30 p.m., but will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery.
