Steven Floyd Wilkerson, 67, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2024, at his home in Statesville, NC. Steve was born on August 28, 1957, in Statesville.
He married Deborah “Debbie” Holland Wilkerson, his high school sweetheart, on August 27, 1978. He was a proud long-time member of the Central Volunteer Fire Department, active on the board and fundraising, and he was an avid gardener. He worked as a Grading Supervisor at GL Wilson Building Company for 42 years and was an expert in his field.
Steve was a beloved husband, father, Papaw, and friend, and he will always be remembered for his generosity, kindness, sense of humor, and barbeque chicken.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Jessica Wilkerson (Jake Vaccaro); his grandsons, Matthew, Samuel, and Gabriel Vaccaro; his sister, Chris Keller (Steven); his nephews, Seth Keller (Tiffany) and Ethan Keller; and his great nephew, Avery Keller. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertie Stout; father, Floyd Wilkerson; stepfather, George Stout; brother, Carlton Wilkerson; and his nephew, Matthew Wilkerson.
Family, friends, and others are invited to a service to celebrate Steve’s life on Sunday, October 27, at South River Baptist Church, 2659 S Chipley Ford Road, Statesville. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and funeral services will begin at 2 p.m.
