Frederick “Fred” Moretti, 87, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. He was born November 5, 1936. A second-generation Italian American, Fred grew up in Astoria, N.Y., where he developed a passion for construction early on.

After serving in the Army’s 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C., he married his beloved wife Edna, and they settled in Mooresville, where Fred founded Moretti Construction, Inc. He specialized in commercial projects and the restoration of historic landmarks, including the Moses Cone Mansion.

Beyond his work, Fred loved animals, raising Polled Hereford cattle and later breeding and showing Paso Fino horses, producing numerous champions. His dedication to the breed earned him national recognition, including induction into the Paso Fino Hall of Fame and the Emeritus title from the Paso Fino Horse Association.

Fred was a devoted father to his three daughters, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, and family. Those who knew him best understood that love was at the core of everything he did. He enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, sharing his Italian traditions, and living life to its fullest.

Fred’s life was defined by his commitment to his family, his career, and the equestrian community, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.
