Robert “Bob” Wilson Riley, 93, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away very unexpectedly on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.

He was born March 22, 1931, in Dallas, Texas, to the late A. D. Riley and Tina Gilbert Riley.

Bob was the owner/operator of Riley Technology. He was a graduate of LSU in Baton Rouge. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Bob was an engineer and race car designer. He was extremely passionate about racing all his adult life. It was very much his passion and joy, and at 93 years old he was working every day.

He was a wonderful husband and father. He was very compassionate and generous by helping others in any way he could. He was a great mentor and teacher to others. He loved to share this passion for racing with those around him. Bob was very dry witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was inducted into the IMSA Hall of Fame just this month.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Billie Ruth Demanade.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Beatrice “Bea” Delarue Riley; children, Anne Hammons (Mark) and Bill Riley (Mary); sister, Lois Montgomery; and grandchildren, David Hammons, George Hammons, Wilson Riley, Sam Riley, and Jacob Riley.

There will be a private Celebration of Bob’s Life at a later date.
