The Statesville Woman’s Club (SWC) will host its “Champions For Children Chili Cook-Off” on Saturday, November 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The rain-or-shine-event, which will be held at the Historic Clubhouse located at 515 West End Avenue in Statesville, will benefit the Children’s Homes of Iredell County and the SWC Historic Clubhouse Capital Campaign.
Children’s Homes of Iredell County serves children and young adults in residential settings, transitional living programs and aftercare initiatives. The SWC supports the nonprofit’s unwavering commitment to providing a safe, nurturing environment and the essential support needed for these young individuals to thrive.
The SWC Historic Clubhouse Capital Campaign is a multi-year campaign to raise money for critical clubhouse repairs such as a new roof, new HVAC system and plumbing updates. The original Historic Clubhouse was built in 1927. The present structure was rebuilt in 1928 after a fire and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Statesville Woman’s Club is a 501(c)3 organization.
Chili Cook-Off Entry Info
To compete in the Chili Cook-Off, the cost is $20 per entry and $5 per extra category. Trophies will be awarded to the top three All-Around Chilis. There will also be Specialty Awards for People’s Choice, Showmanship, Spicy Woman (Ladies Only) and First Responders. The entry cut-off date is Saturday, October 26. Awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the event. Also, limited vendor spaces are available for $75; the vendor entry cut-off date is Saturday, October 26. Guests
Event guests will be able to purchase a $5 Basic Chili Kit, which includes five sampling cups and a drink; a $5 Just Chili Kit (seven sampling cups); or a $10 “Everything” Chili Kit (five tasting sampling cups, cornbread, dessert and drink). A $5 Kids Kit will be available (mac & cheese, chicken nuggets and juice box). Extra drinks (soda/water), desserts and cornbread will also be available. Red Buffalo Brewing Co. staff will be on-site with their fire engine selling adult beverages (to patrons 21 and older).
Parking
Organizers ask that attendees park in the adjacent lot at Mitchell Community College on West End Avenue. Guests can pay with either cash or card (processing fee applies). Lawn chairs will be allowed. No coolers or pets will be allowed with the exception of service animals. Guest emcee will be Billy Buck from WAME 92.9 FM and 550 AM. Rounding out the day will be special entertainment, exhibitors, Classic Cars (in Mitchell Community College parking lot) and an “Envelope Challenge” Fundraiser Raffle.
