Special to IFN

Do you know an Iredell County resident or group that volunteers their time and efforts consistently? Those who give tirelessly of themselves to help those in need?

Now is your opportunity to nominate these exceptional volunteers for the 2025 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award. If you know one of these outstanding community members or groups, nominating them is a great way to let them know how much their work is appreciated.

Nominations are now being accepted. The deadline is January 31, 2025.

The awards program, created by the Office of the Governor in 1979, recognizes North Carolina’s most dedicated volunteers. Through the years, the award has been bestowed on thousands of North Carolinians who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local community.

Volunteers are the backbone of our community; dedicating their time, skills, and passion to support our mission. The Governor’s Volunteer Service Award honors the true spirit of volunteerism by recognizing individuals, groups, and businesses that significantly contribute to their community through volunteer service. Any person, group, or entity from the public, non-profit and private sectors may be nominated for an award. There are categories for the type of nominee (senior, youth, faith-based, family, group, business, etc.). Additional categories are based on the area of service (animal, environmental, disaster, youth, preservation, etc.).

The United Way will once again be coordinating the local effort for Iredell County. Nominators need to filled out using an online application and by providing references supporting their nominee(s) or submit a completed nomination form to Iredell County’s Award Coordinator Linda Wahlberg at lwahlberg@uwirdell.org.

All qualified nominations will be reviewed by a local award committee. Up to 10 nominations per county can be selected for submission to the NC Commission on Volunteerism & Community Service for consideration, including one nomination for the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service, which is awarded to the top 20 volunteers in the state.

All nominations must be submitted or post-dated no later than January 31, 2025, to be considered by the United Way of Iredell County’s award committee.

The selected awardees will be honored at a UWIC Volunteer Recognition Event in Spring of 2025.
