The Cub Scouts of Pack #173 in Mount Mourne had an exciting and educational adventure this past week, visiting both the local fire department and police department. The trip provided the scouts with a firsthand look at the important work that first responders do to keep the community safe.
The visit began at the Mount Mourne Fire Department, where the scouts toured the firehouse, learned about fire safety, and got an up-close view of the fire trucks and equipment. Firefighters demonstrated how they suit up quickly for emergencies and explained the importance of smoke alarms and fire escape plans. The scouts even had the chance to try on some firefighting gear, which sparked plenty of laughter and excitement.
Next, the pack headed to the Mooresville Police Department, where officers welcomed them with an engaging tour of the facilities. The scouts learned about the various roles that police officers play, from patrol work to investigations. They also got to see inside of a police car. Officers emphasized the importance of staying safe, being kind, and being good citizens.
“It was really cool to see how they help people,” said one scout. “I want to be a firefighter or police officer when I grow up!”
Leaders from Pack #173 expressed gratitude to the firefighters and police officers for taking the time to teach and inspire the scouts. The visit ended with a heartfelt thank-you and a group photo to commemorate the day.
The outing not only reinforced Pack #173’s focus on learning and community involvement but also inspired the scouts to appreciate the dedication and bravery of their local heroes.
