Effective Tuesday, March 17, the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center, the Bentley Community Center, and the Bristol Road Community Center will be closed until further notice, city officials said in public notice.

All facility rentals at recreation centers and outdoor shelters, and all city-sponsored programs such as sports leagues, senior trips, events, are currently cancelled through April 12.

“Parks are still open,” the public notice said. “We encourage fresh air and exercise, but ask that individuals be vigilant about social distancing. We cannot regularly sanitize surfaces such as park benches, playground equipment, and public restrooms after each use, so visitors should use those at their own discretion and practice the CDC guidelines for handwashing and other methods of self-protection.”

City officials will continue to give updates as decisions are made regarding operations.
