The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about an alarming increase in “fake law enforcement” scams.

Scammers are impersonating law enforcement officers to deceive citizens, often using fear and urgency to steal personal information and money.

What to Watch For

• Callers pretend to be law enforcement officials, requesting personal information or payments.
• They make demands for immediate payment to resolve fabricated legal issues.
• They threaten arrest, fines, or other legal consequences if payment is not made.
• They request payment through unconventional means, such as gift cards or wire transfers.

What You Can Do

• Write down the information provided by the caller, including their “name” and the number they call from.
• Do NOT provide personal or financial information over the phone.
• Hang up and contact the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office directly at 704-878-3180. Avoid returning calls to the number provided by the scammer.

Reminders

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office will never request payment of fines over the phone. You will never be asked to pay with gift cards, Bitcoin, or other unconventional methods.
