Larry Hugh Sane, 80, of Concord, N.C., passed away on December 21, 2024. He was born in the City of Statesville in Iredell County, N.C., on November 28, 1944. He was the youngest of four children born to Edward Hugh Sane and Mary Belle Greenwood Sane.

Larry was raised by his mother and maternal grandfather, William Samuel Greenwood, on Monroe Street in Statesville. His early education was at Avery Sherrill Elementary School, D. Matt Thompson Jr. High School, and Monticello Jr. High School (where he emptied the school by pulling the fire alarm), and graduated from Scotts High School in 1963. As a teenager, Larry drove a school bus, and worked for a demolition crew remodeling The Vance Hotel and as a stockman at the JC Penney Distribution Center in Statesville.

Through the youth group at Diamond Hill Baptist Church in Statesville, he met Sandra Carol Safriet. She is the oldest oftwo and now last survivor of Dallas Claymon Safriet Jr. and Jettie Victoria Tucker Safriet. Larry and Sandra were united in Holy Matrimony on Saturday, June 19, 1965, at Diamond Hill Baptist Church, and in 2024 they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

Making their home on East Broad Street in Statesville, on  the original farmland of D. C. Safriet Sr., Larry joined Maintenance Supply Company of Huntersville, N.C., as a salesman of janitorial cleaning supplies in May 1969. On December 26, 1969, Larry, Sandra and toddler Cory moved to Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Their son Dave was born in Charleston, S.C., in March 1971. Larry eventually maintained a sales district between Orangeburg, S.C., Charleston, S.C., and Fayetteville, N.C. His customers included many churches, hospitals, school districts, and universities. He retired from the company after forty-two years of service in February 2012. In early retirement, Larry stayed busy with church friends by working a few days a week at the Snee Farm Country Club golf course in Mt. Pleasant.

Larry and Sandra were members of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., for forty-seven years where he served as deacon, Sunday School director, usher, and the chairman of the Building & Grounds Committee for many years while Sandra served in many capacities with childcare, handbells, choir, and other functions. Both sons were active in the church until moving their memberships to other congregations. After joining Pitts Baptist Church in 2017, Larry stayed active as long as his health allowed with Friendly Neighbors, the senior adult community group, and the senior choir.

Larry maintained friends across North Carolina and South Carolina and enjoyed working in the yard, photography, boating, recreational shrimping in Hobcaw Creek with neighbors, and traveling across the U.S. and abroad. Larry and Sandra relocated to Concord, N.C., in August 2017 to be closer to family and eventually moved into the Taylor Glen Retirement Community in May 2022.
