BY AMBER RICHARDS

This time of year is special to share with our families and to make memories. The foster children that we work with at the Iredell County Department of Social Services sometimes struggle to be able to make these memories through no fault of their own.

Contributions to the Lonely Children’s Fund help these children make special memories through activities, gifts, clothing, furniture, and so much more.

Over the past 16 years, while working with DSS, I have witnessed how the Lonely Children’s Fund has helped make foster children’s wishes come true. By providing things as simple as school uniforms, a school calculator, swim lessons, tutoring, a new comforter or shoes, the Lonely Children’s Fund helps provide things that many of us take for granted. The fund has helped children go to prom, or paid for summer camp or a school field trip.

These things could be thought of as trivial to some, but to the children we work with these small gestures can make a huge difference in making core memories for their childhood.

The Lonely Children’s Fund is so important to help make these memories happen for these children. Thanks to the support of our community, this program continues year after year to bring hope to these children’s lives in a special way.
