Joseph Darrell Roten, 83, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at his residence following a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.
Joseph was born March 19, 1941, in West Jefferson, N.C., to the late William Bartlett Roten and Margaret Ester Jones Roten. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, where he was very involved. He served as a Safety Team member and as an usher for more than 10 years. He loved hunting, spending time with his family, traveling, and listening to gospel music. He was quite a jokester and loved making people laugh. After working for Southern Screw for 28 years, Joseph retired from Engineer Sintered Components of Troutman with many years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Gail Keller; and an infant brother, James Ray Roten.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Lydia Mae Moore Roten; daughter, Linda H. Rollings (Tim); son, Michael D, Roten (Karen Waters); son-in-law, Dennis Keller; brother, Jimmy Odell Roten; eight grandchildren, Brittany, Christy, Caitlin, Hunter, Elizabeth, Lewis, Stacey and Megan; and ten great-grandchildren, along with one on the way in the summer of 2025.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 8, at 1 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor James Keever and Pastor Robin Miller. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Tuesday, January 7, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home.
