Michael Matheson, 68, of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 6, 2025, at his home. He was born January 20, 1956, in Valdosta, Ga., the son of the late Earl Matheson and Carolyn Brinkley Matheson.
Michael retired from CommScope after 33 years. He was best known as “Speedy” and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He enjoyed flying, and he started at an early age with his father. He later became a private pilot. He also enjoyed riding on his Harley Davidson, and he took numerous rides to the mountains and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish and honor Michael’s memories include his wife of 37 years, Karen Dagenhart Matheson of the home; his daughter, Nicole Simerly and husband Jamie; his sons, Brad Mundy and wife Elizabeth, and Phil Mundy; his grandchildren, Caleb Simerly and wife Kacey, Hannah Simerly, Sarah Greene and husband Caleb, Zachary Mundy, Ella Mundy, and Axel Mundy; his great-grandchild, Jaxon Greene; his brother and sister-in-law, Rickey and Judy Hammer; and brother-in-law, Donald Mitchell.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Jamie Simerly will officiate.
