Mrs. Annie Christine Mayberry Stokes, 82, of 123 Marcel Road, Statesville, N.C., was born in Alexander County on April 24, 1942. She was the daughter of the late Walter Pinkey Mayberry and Laruna Sharpe Mayberry. She was married to David Leroy Stokes, who survives. Mrs. Stokes departed this life on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.

Chrissy, as she was affectionately called. was a graduate of Happy Plains High School and was a faithful member of Zion Chapel AME Zion Church in Hiddenite.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Quay E. Mayberry; sisters, Hattie Mozie Parker and Hazel Geneva Mayberry Parker; and brothers, Jerry Mayberry, and Charles Edward Mayberry.

She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, in addition to her husband, David Leroy Stokes of the home; her daughters, Tina Delaine Stokes, Melissa Fay Stokes, Fonda Annette Stokes and Jennifer Damita Stokes; her bonus sons, Henry Hank Ellis and Kenneth (Deborah) Bennett; three brothers, Walter Cecil (Valerie) Mayberry, Melvin Espy Mayberry and Leon Harvey (Claudette) Mayberry; three sisters, Gwendolyn Reena Mayberry, Clara Denise Mayberry and Wanda Kay Mayberry; her in-laws, Emily Mayberry, Vehester Dalton and Ted Stokes; her grandchildren, Latoya Stokes, Autumn Ramsey, Symone Stokes, and Kordell Millsaps; great grandchildren, McKenzie Stokes, Kazyah Miller, Memphis Cauthen and Stephon Heller; and a host of special nieces, special nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family, neighbors and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Zion Chapel AME Zion Church. Reverend Sterling Howard will officiate and Reverend Robin Williams Curry, Pastor will eulogize. Members of the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
