Three new officers have joined the the Statesville Police Department.

Mayor Costi Kutteh and Police Chief David Onley presided over a swearing-in ceremony held Thursday in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. The ceremony was attended by the officers’ family members, friends, and fellow law enforcement colleagues.

Chief Onley introduced each officer, sharing their background and aspirations, before Mayor Kutteh administered the Oath of Office.

The new officers are:

♦ Joshua Shoffner: A Statesville native and graduate of North Iredell High School, Shoffner joined the National Guard as a Combat Engineer at the age of 17. He recently completed the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) program at Mitchell Community College in December. He expressed his excitement about the opportunity to serve his hometown community.

Andrew Hirsh: Originally from Danbury, Conn., Hirsh moved to North Carolina eight years ago. A graduate of Lake Norman High School and Mitchell Community College, he also completed the BLET program in December. Serving his community as a police officer has been a lifelong goal.

Clarence “Marty” Hayes: Born in Hickory, Hayes graduated from St. Stephens High School and entered the workforce immediately after. However, he felt a calling to pursue a more meaningful career and completed the BLET program at Mitchell Community College in December.

Chief Onley shared his confidence in the new officers.

“It’s always an honor to welcome individuals who are committed to serving and protecting our community. Officers Shoffner, Hirsh, and Hayes bring unique experiences and a shared passion for making a positive impact in Statesville,” he said. “I look forward to seeing their contributions to our department and our city.”
