Thelma Deal Keever, 100, passed away peacefully at her home on January 20, 2024.
She is survived by her son, Steve Somers (Donna); daughter, Jolene McIntyre; son-in-law, Jerry Blackwelder; stepson, Phillip Keever (Helen); grandchildren, Terry Somers, Ricky Somers, Stephanie Barnard (Terry), Elizabeth Azmi, Maribeth Warren (Stacy), Adrienne Lankford (Bobby), Jessica McIntyre, and Daniel McIntyre; and 18 great grandchildren.
Thelma was born August 16, 1924, to Oscar and Gertrude Deal. She was the eighth of eleven children. She married Marvin Allen Beaver on November 25, 1943. He died on June 23, 1944. Their daughter Elizabeth Allen Beaver, was born on December 29, 1944, and died at birth.
Thelma married J.C. (Buddy) Somers on April 20, 1946. He died on November 27, 1956. They had four children. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Somers Blackwelder, and a son Jerry Keith Somers.
Thelma married Noel Mars Keever on February 7, 1963. He died on January 21, 1995.
Thelma was preceded in death by her siblings, Henry Deal, Lois Belle Deal, John Deal, Paul Deal, Ruth Talbert, JC Deal, Coite Deal, Louise Norton, and Wade Deal.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was an active member of Monticello Methodist Church during the later years of her life. During her early life she was a member of New Sterling Presbyterian Church, Bethany Presbyterian Church, Concord Presbyterian Church and Liberty United Methodist Church.
Thelma was a homemaker who loved the Lord and her family, and she enjoyed tending to her flower garden. Thelma was a woman of tremendous faith. It was the foundation of her life, carrying her through hardship and adversity, and she often spoke of how faithful God had been to her in the peaks and valleys of her life. Despite experiencing more then her share of grief and heartache, Thelma had a joy for life that spread to everybody around her. She was quick to express her love for her friends and family, always asking after others and faithfully praying for her loved ones until her final days.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Monticello Methodist Church, 308 Island Ford Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Reverend Amy Spivey will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bethany Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
