Robert Gilbert Redmon, also know as “Gib” or “Snuffy,” was born in Iredell County, N.C., on July 7,1929, to the late Elvie Lackey Redmon and Enos Redmon. He was married to Ruthie “Ruth” Mae Summers for over 69 years, who preceded him in death in 2023. Also preceding him in death are a son, John Mark Redmon; six brothers, Oliver, Bobby, John, Enos, Alfred, and Harry; three sisters, Azalee Dalton, Dorothy Steele, and Lauree Redmon; in-laws, James Summers, Edith Stevenson and Thomas Summers.

He attended Unity High School, and he was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Harmony, where he served on the Adult Choir, Mighty Men, and other organizations as well. Also, he sang with Logans Choir for over 50 years.

Robert served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, as PFC in Korea, where he was honorably discharged. He worked for the Stateboard of Corrections over 25 years as a prison guard and as a road guard. He was the first black person to work for a prison camp, from where he retired in 1995. Robert worked for the Shriners of Lexington, Post 201. Also, State of NC Depertment of Correction on May 3, 1968. Robert received a diploma at Davie County Public Schools in December 1972; attended Mitchell Commuity College Firearms Training in June 25, 1976; Department of Correction Division of Prisons Detection & Management of Abnormal Behavior on August 1, 1976; Free and Accepted Masons Prince Hall Affiliation Jurisdiction of N.C.; Harmony Lodge #824; received a certificate for Loyal & Meritis Service to the Craft on February 16, 1985; enrolled in CPR/ First Aid in April 9, 1991; Al Khattab Temple No. 201 Noble in December 13, 1999; and he attended Rowan/Cabarrus Community College. His hobbies were painting, mowing yards, seek and find puzzles, talking to birds, and making gardens. Roberts favorite songs were “It’s getting late in the evening,” “Victory is Mine,” and “Feet Got Light.”

He leaves to cherish the memories of his life two daughters, Vickie (Lawrence) Dobson and Lisa Redmon; three sons, Robert (Bo) Redmon, Scottie (Teresa) Redmon, and Michael Redmon; grandchildren, Keisha Smith, Ronald Smith, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Redmon, Jazzlynn Redmon, and Michelle (Mardale) Leach; great grands, Ayonna, Jordan (Jada), and Jalynn; great great grands, Torryn, Jase, Josiah, Maji, Hayven, and Kahlyn; sisters, Lois Steele, Beatrice Dalton, and Sandra Houston; in-laws, Joyce Howard, Gwen Summers, Kathy (Glenn) Millsaps, and Larry (Geneva) Summers; and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

All is well, safely rest, God is nigh!

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Harmony, N.C., at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Pastor Roseboro will bring the eulogy and Reverend Glen Millsaps will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
